Carbon Champion: Carbon Footprinting (GHG Accounting),  Carbon Management and Carbon Reporting Training Course

Overview:

An increasing number of organisations, of all sizes and sectors, are placing a focus on Carbon Accounting, Carbon Management and Carbon Reporting.

*Under the Companies Act 2006 (Strategic and Directors’ Reports) Regulations 2013, quoted companies are required to report their annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in their directors’ report.

– New requirements expected in April 2019 will extend this to all large businesses (as defined by the Companies Act 2006).

The course provides an introduction to climate change, carbon footprinting (GHG Accounting), carbon management and energy management, carbon reporting and carbon reduction. It presents an overview of different methodologies (e.g. the Greenhouse Gas Protocol) to identify, quantify and account and report GHG emissions and plan actions to reduce these.

Who should attend?:

Anyone wishing to learn about climate risk and carbon management and ways to measure, monitor, report and reduce their contribution to it. Typical attendees include owners and directors, sustainability managers, facilities managers, financial managers and environmental managers.

Aims:

This course will provide an introduction to climate change, GHGs, carbon and energy management. The aim is to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to identify, quantify and report GHG emissions in their organisations (the carbon footprint) and plan action to reduce these emissions.

Objectives:

Successful learners will be able to:

~ Discuss the science of climate change.

~ Outline the drivers for action on climate risk including international policy and local legislation.

~ Identify associated risks and opportunities as relevant to their organisation and supply chain

~ Plan how to act in order to minimise the risks and maximise the opportunities.

~ Understand how to measure (account) GHG emissions and calculate the carbon footprint of your organisation.

~ Appreciate the different GHG measurement and reporting methodologies, protocols and standards and how they could be applied (includes a focus on the GHG Protocol).

~ Manage their organisation’s carbon emissions by accounting for them.

~ Develop plans for reducing carbon emissions following the GHG Management Hierarchy.

~ Explain the pros and cons of offsets.

~ Access tools and additional resources to support further action if desired.

Assessment:

Practical class exercises and activities throughout the course.

Certification:

Successful candidates will receive a Professional Certificate of Achievement.
