Offset Options

The term ‘Carbon neutral’ gives the impression that an organisation, service, product or event has zero carbon impact.  We avoid this term as it can be misleading.  We prefer the term ‘Carbon Managed’ which means that companies are committed to a simple 3 step process:

1. Being informed and educated

2. Measuring and reporting their carbon footprint

3. Reducing their carbon impact of by applying the IEMA Greenhouse Gas hierarchy approach.  Offsetting is one option to compensate for emissions that cannot be avoided.

We supports clients to find a suitable offset option.  We only promote UN certified, premium quality, carbon offset schemes.  These projects bring a wide range of social, economic and environmental benefits.

Why purchase carbon offsets?

Benefits include:

~ Reduces GHG emissions that would otherwise occur

~ Creates economic development opportunities

~ Reduces environmental degradation/biodiversity benefits

~ Health benefits

~ Household savings

~ Social benefits (reduces risk)

~ Generates time

Julia Roberts summaries the benefits of clean cookstoves:

True North Sustainability is Carbon Managed

At True North Sustainability, we have committed to offset 100% of our emission via a clean cookstove carbon offset project in Kampala, Uganda. The scheme has been awarded Gold Standard™ recognition as a premium carbon offsetting project by the UN. The offsetting scheme produces carbon credits which we purchase, in effect compensating for a proportion of our emissions.
